Exploring the intersection of emotions where the body and mind meet

Mind and Body Counseling

I will help you feel empowered in your health.

When a person feels empowered in their health they are able to:

  • Maintain their independence

  • Build confidence and trust in their body to function

  • Feel good about themselves

The tools I have available through the use of Jin Shin Jyutsu Myofascial Release, Coregulating Touch and Transforming Touch® allow me to address the needs of the person mentally, emotionally and physically.

Once the areas of stress are addressed, a plan of action is created to help you improve your quality of life.

With somatic light-touch therapy, you’ll learn:

  • How to listen to your body and explore areas of tension, stress and emotions connected to your health

  • Bring awareness to the relationship between your mind and body

  • To recognize the positive changes that occur throughout your therapy

  • Simple and accessible self-care tools that can be easily incorporated into daily life

How does somatic light-touch therapy work?

I use somatic (relating to the body) light-touch therapy as an umbrella term for the services I offer.

Somatic Integration sessions use a combination of the modalities below.

Myofascial Release

Fascia is both a system and a structure. It is a continuous fiber network that is the communication system of the body. Its intricate pathways maintain the integrity of our structure, deliver nutrients and store information. Wherever the fascia is impacted, the ability for the body to transmit and receive information is compromised.

If those compromised areas are left unaddressed, over time that will begin to deteriorate the overall health of the body.

On a functional level, touch connects and integrates the communication systems of the body. Touch acts as a jumper cable to jumpstart the process of eliminating the dis-ease that is working against the health of the body.

Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. This essential “time element” has to do with the viscous flow and the piezoelectric phenomenon: a low load (gentle pressure) applied slowly will allow a viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate.

Jin Shin Jyutsu

Jin Shin Jyutsu is energy medicine for the mind and body. It is an ancient eastern art that employs simple touch to stimulate 26 locations on each side of the body. When stimulated in a certain order, these locations (we call them Safety Energy Locations) work together to open any of the thousands of highly defined energy pathways in the body. When the body is brought into a relaxed state, it gains the ability to truly rest, digest, repair and rebuild itself.

In this system, our bodies contain several energy pathways that feed life into all of our cells. When one or more of these paths become blocked, this effect may lead to discomfort or even pain. This blockage or stagnation will not only disrupt the local area but will continue and eventually disharmonize the complete path or paths of the energy flow.
