How does somatic light-touch therapy work?
I use somatic (relating to the body) light-touch therapy as an umbrella term for the services I offer. Each session uses a combination of the therapies below.
Myofascial Release
Fascia is both a system and a structure. It is a continuous fiber network that is the communication system of the body. Its intricate pathways maintain the integrity of our structure, deliver nutrients and store information. Wherever the fascia is impacted, the ability for the body to transmit and receive information is compromised.
If those compromised areas are left unaddressed, over time that will begin to deteriorate the overall health of the body.
On a functional level, touch connects and integrates the communication systems of the body. Touch acts as a jumper cable to jumpstart the process of eliminating the dis-ease that is working against the health of the body.
Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. This essential “time element” has to do with the viscous flow and the piezoelectric phenomenon: a low load (gentle pressure) applied slowly will allow a viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate.
Jin Shin Jyutsu
Jin Shin Jyutsu is energy medicine for the mind and body. It is an ancient eastern art that employs simple touch to stimulate 26 locations on each side of the body. When stimulated in a certain order, these locations (we call them Safety Energy Locations) work together to open any of the thousands of highly defined energy pathways in the body. When the body is brought into a relaxed state, it gains the ability to truly rest, digest, repair and rebuild itself.
In this system, our bodies contain several energy pathways that feed life into all of our cells. When one or more of these paths become blocked, this effect may lead to discomfort or even pain. This blockage or stagnation will not only disrupt the local area but will continue and eventually disharmonize the complete path or paths of the energy flow.
