First one, Positive Body Talk

Yep, you heard me right. In the moments before I get out of bed or before I go to sleep I spend 5 minutes visualizing and internally talking to the cells of my body.

Hahaha I know it can sound a little wonky but how can you know if you like something or that it works if you don’t try it.

This arose out of a desire (which I must admit have some vain undertones), to keep healthy, youthful and vibrant. Creating a sustainable foundation for my health practices is very important to me. I want to know that as I age, I did everything I could for my health with the resources, knowledge and mindset available to me.

Each cell in our body is affected by the signals sent and received by the brain. Low vibrational thoughts, speech, activities, food, etc. can have a very negative, disharmonizing effect on our body.

So I thought why not say positive accolades, to help reset my subconscious and retrain the neural pathways of my brain to put me on a positive path. Everyday, I tell my body or certain areas how beautiful they are and thank them for all that they do to help keep me happy, healthy and alive.

Second, Oils.

I LOVE OILS!!!! A few years ago they became quite an obsession and then I cooled it. Well that love affair has been reignited. Here is what I am trying out:

  1. Castor Oil: Promotes hair growth, I use on my scalp, eyebrows and eyelashes

  2. Oil of Oregano: Strong antimicrobial properties to help fit infections

  3. Moringa Oil: Anti-aging! and blemish fighter, I apply directly to my face

  4. Coconut Oil: Antimicrobial properties, I use to do oil pulling on my teeth

  5. Evening Primrose: Wonderful for skin and easing PMS symptoms

  6. Grapeseed: Wonderful for cooking as a substitute for olive oil

Third, Taking a Stroll.

Now that New York is not my home base, exercise is something I have to think a little bit more about. Living in that city, my workout was built in. For example...

Cardio, no problem try running for the bus, the train or to appointments.

Weights, got you covered there - carrying groceries, furniture, laundry, etc. sometimes for BLOCKS! Many days I felt like a pack mule.

Isometrics, try standing on a packed subway car in rush hour doing your best to stay upright without leaning on the person next to you for support.

So you see the New York City, was my gym. Now living in Seattle the car is my main mode of transportation and at the moment I don’t really have to be anywhere at any particular time.

I made a commitment to walk rain or shine (and in this city, rain is ubiquitous to the climate here) 3-4 times a week for 45 minutes. Nature, I will say is much more accessible which is really nice to have lush greenery everywhere you look.

Hope you all enjoyed the first installation of Morning Musings!
